2nd Annual Where House Bar Chili Cook-Off


Attention all chili connoisseurs, spice enthusiasts, and bean aficionados!

The aroma of simmering spices is calling, and it's time to answer the delicious summons! That's right, folks, the 2nd Annual Where House Bar Chili Cook-Off is back, and it's hotter than ever (figuratively, of course... unless you like it that way, in which case, bring it on!).

Mark your calendars for January 20th, 2024 because we're brewing up a day of fiery fun, friendly competition, and enough chili to satisfy even the most insatiable appetites. Whether you're a seasoned champion with a secret family recipe or a rookie bubbling with creative concoctions, there's glory (and a trophy!) waiting for you.

Here's a taste of what's cookin':

  • Categories to tantalize every palate: From classic red to vegetarian delights, bean-tastic masterpieces to tear-jerking scorchers, there's a chili category to unleash your inner culinary maestro. Categories this year include Traditional/Standard, Spicy & Specialty. Participants are welcome to enter up to 3 different chilis if desired. Chili recipes however, may be considered for multiple categories by the judges.

  • Prizes that sizzle: Bragging rights? Guaranteed. But that's not all! We've got trophies, gift certificates, and maybe even a few surprises up our sleeves for the chili champions who truly set our taste buds ablaze. Prizes will be awarded for Grand Champion, 2nd Overall, 3rd Overall, 1st, 2nd & 3rd People’s Choice, Best Spicy & Best Specialty.

  • A fiesta of fun: Live music, games, laughter, and of course, enough chili to fill a swimming pool (okay, maybe not that much, but you get the idea!). It's a day to gather with friends, family, and fellow chili fanatics for a good ol' fashioned community cook-off extravaganza.

So, how do you join the heat?

  1. Gather your ingredients: Dust off your secret recipe, experiment with bold new flavors, or simply channel your inner chili champion. Just remember, the only limit is your imagination (and maybe the fire code… but let's not worry about that now). Participants should plan on providing a minimum of 4 Quarts of chili (Large Crock Pot) or equivalent. Chili should be prepared and ready to serve by 2pm. Contestants are welcome to arrive and begin setting up as early as 12pm. Please plan on paying your $25 entry fee at that time if you have not yet done so. Judging and public tasting will begin at 2:30pm and last until 4:30pm. Prizes will be awarded at 5:30pm. Bowls, spoons, napkins, ect. will be provided. Don’t forget your ladle!

  2. Sign up to sling your stew: Head over to www.wherehousebar.com/chili-cook-off-sign-up or call 417.597.4040 and secure your spot in the competition. Don't be a wallflower, let your chili shine!

  3. Spread the word: Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and even the squirrels in the park. The more the merrier (and the hungrier!). It will be $7 at the door for all who wish to enjoy all the great chilis. Door Proceeds will benefit Ozarks Food Harvest!
